Yes, that's between wave providers: anyone can build a wave server and interoperate, much like anyone can run their own SMTP server. The wave protocol is open to contributions by the broader community with the goal to continue to improve how we share information, together. If you're interested in getting involved, here are a few things you should check out on www.waveprotocol.org:
- Draft Protocol Specification -- This is an early draft and will definitely change
- Community Principles -- Understand how this open source project works
- Architecture Whitepapers -- Learn more about the components of Google Wave
We're eager to hear your feedback, so please tell us about your interest, and drop a note on the technical engineering forum with your feedback.
Beyond the federation protocol, you may also be interested in learning more about the Google Wave APIs, as described on the new Google Wave Developers blog.
I'm waiting to try wave on my own ...
ReplyDeleteI'm posting this everywhere in my excitement, but really, I think this is exactly what the web needed. Thank you for making it open source and allowing other people to build and add to the infrastructure. I can't wait to get involved.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I will definitely be checking this out further.
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea! Web getting people closer and closer..
ReplyDeletePlease integrate Google Voice into this and this will really be a great communication tool. Sometimes, a phone call conveys much more than an IM. You could give the option of recording the conversation and this could appear as a wave.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to test it out
ReplyDeleteCould somebody send me invite?
ReplyDeletenikanorov@gmail.com
um...what is it? the video is down on wave.google.com
ReplyDeleteincredible ! :D
ReplyDeletei m wating.........
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get involved.
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice to see how can you combine all the things that you use everyday in Wave!
It's purely amazing. This will definitely change the way how people communicate. I'm looking forward to get my hands onto this :-) Great job so far!
ReplyDeleteWhat did one hosted conversation say to the other hosted conversation?
ReplyDeleteNothing they just WAVED!
The real-time text of G-Wave could be very good for people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Can't wait to see whether 'native' G-Wave meets needs or we have to get working on some Extensions.
ReplyDeleteThanks, You are great, I'm very excited to start building an application that I had in hold for years, around google wave.
ReplyDeleteGoogle, you are great!! Cannot wait to get involved

ReplyDeleteI want to try it as soon, as it will be possible.
ReplyDeleteGoogle, thanks in advance !
This really is incredible. I'm longing for the invite...
ReplyDeleteLooks good! One essential for me is to be able to use my own domain with this, something I'd love to do throughout Google accounts, without having to get google apps running in parallel, well, in conflict.
ReplyDeleteCan Anyone invite me?
ReplyDeleteAnybody having Google wave account. Please invite me. I 'm dying to try it out..
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the dissapointed ones waiting for an invite, so that I can start using this amazing new way of collaborating. However, with so many invites and so much attention, why so few comments and aknowledgements inhere?
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work, you'll change the way a lot of people work, that's for sure.
Sincerely,
Martin
And, should you happen to have an invite to spare, feel free to throw one at me. :)

ReplyDeleteI will be eternally grateful if someone invites me
ReplyDeleteI would like to wave myself, can anyone send me an invite to vivilska at gmail dot com.
ReplyDeletePersonally i find this to be the new universal application that i firmly believe will be used for the next few decades from now. And as Google themselves have stated, the improvements will come from the users and then possibly improved more by Google ( refining what is needed ).
ReplyDeleteBut hey, that is just my opinion >.>
Like everyone else on the list, I am very much looking forward to this application as are a few of my adult children, some friends and an association I belong to. Thanks, Google.
